Good wines tasted last night

So I don’t forget the real pleasures of last night:

Valminor Albarino is a crisp, clean, refreshing white – perfect for seafood

Pearmund Viognier is fruity, with a beautiful nose and lovely notes to go with spicy fish, chicken or sausage… yum!

Montes Purple Angel from Chile was a delightful full bodied red surprise; really delicious and with many complex flavors all blending slowly on the tongue…

Ramey Claret packed a delightful punch, full bodied, luscious, and heady

Yum!

Having an Enomatic in Fair Lakes Whole Foods is a real delight.

Trip to Venice, Italy (May 5-9)

May 5th:

Wow, British Airways owned Boeing 777 planes are amazingly quiet; you can actually have a normal conversation and I did not need my canalphones to block out the noise of the jet engines. The seats seemed a little wider too; perhaps 19″ wide instead of 17″ – and that two inches makes a world of difference for my shoulders. Watched Burlesque with Cher and Christina Aguilera, who is hot in the show… wow; she really can sing.

Heathrow is annoying in that nearly every flight needs to stop well away from the terminals and they bus you to the terminals where you have to pass through security again for all connecting flights. On the plus side, the food places take virtually any currency you have and you can do vodka tastings at the duty free stores in the airport even though it is 7am local time.

Heartfelt Thanks

Thank you Apple and Steve Jobs for keeping Adobe Flash off my iOS devices and making it easy for me to remove it from my Mac OS X gear.

The stability, security, performance, and battery life I am enjoying now were not possible on a Flash-enabled machine.

Mac OS X DNS mysteries explained a bit

Hannes Schmidt has an excellent little write up of why Mac OS X DNS seems a little unpredictable at times when using DHCP or VPN assigned name services; this helps one understand why the results are a surprise or why dig in a terminal window delivers different results from your browser on the same host.

Downgraded to Skype 2.8

The new 5.x version for Mac was way to Windows-craptastic-y… Gross steps backwards in user interface.

Skype 2.8 is vastly better. Though the install image is getting trickier to find.
