Western Union == Epic Fail

So I wanted to send some money to a cousin who is having some financial challenges. When I was younger, the logical thing would be to use Western Union to wire money; but that is no longer the best solution. It could be, but Western Union has the worst web design on the planet, so […]

Sad day

My new employer has been bought by a joint-venture holding company, and we had a layoff today. We lost 8 people some of whom I have become quite fond of, and I will miss them a lot and hope they will find success elsewhere. We have new work now, and more funding for our small […]

A long and good day

For Erci‘s birthday we hooked up with friends and went to Maryland’s Sheep and Wool festival. I spent the day people watching and napping under the sweet gum tree near the performing artist’s pavilion, Erci and our friends shopped the hundreds of wool vendors, craft booths, and weaving, and knitting suppliers. We gorged on lamb […]

Priceless reviews from Cambridge, MA

These have to be the funniest reviews I’ve seen on Amazon yet, thanks to fyrlocc for pointing them out. Prometheus reviews of various Amazon products Prometheus must be some kind of writer.

I want an iPhone

I want an iPhone. Sprint/Nextel is allowing their North American iDen network to deteriorate slowly. I doubt it is deliberate destruction, but I suspect that as components in the network fail they just neglect to replace them. I do not know this for a fact, but call quality and signal strength have been slowly slipping […]

HBO’s John Adams Miniseries

I am no expert on life, clothing, history of the American Revolution; but to my eye this “John Adams” miniseries on HBO looks fantastic. Costumes look right, the music feels right, the acting is spectacular, and the events appear to be dealt with more honestly than my schooling treated the same events when I was […]

Marching Through Time truncated

Due to the expected full day of rain, we packed out of Marietta last night and came home dry. It was very warm yesterday, and my voice totally gave out, but it was a lot of fun for all. Unpacking dry this morning, yippea. As sore as my calves are this morning, it is probably […]

55.5mpg Woo Hoo!

Just rubbing it in a little, for the past 137 miles (since I last filled up) I have averaged 55.5 miles per gallon in the 2006 Prius. It helps enormously that the weather has been calm enough to run with no heater and no air conditioning.

Wow – is this for real?

I used to watch Beyond2000 all the time when I was in Air Force barracks/dorms… I had no idea the show was still around. The embedded clip is about two different projects to power small vehicles with compressed air. Interesting idea, I can easily picture small loaders and golf-carts going this route and just using […]

Sakura ga suki desu

While I was laid up with the nasty coughing flu, the seasons delivered great beauty to our back yard. Only the last five photos are from this past weekend, others are from earlier this season.
