Mainstream Media News == Epic Fail!

How bizarre is it that the only places I am reading about Congressman Kucinich introducing 35 articles of impeachment to congress last night are on blogs like BoingBoing and LiberalRage?

I thought perhaps I’d simply missed this important news on the many news sites I scan daily…
So I rechecked NY Times, CNN, LA Times, BBC, CBS, ABC, NBC… nope. They all suck. They are ignoring this important news.

Hello world of Orwell, hope you are enjoying this beautiful morning drinking your coffee on the back patio as I am…

Well, at least C-Span has the coverage, and thank goodness for Congressman Kucinich, impeachment of this treasonous, law-breaking administration is the better part of a decade overdue. Impeach, have a public trial with criminal charges, force a step down. It would be much cooler to do that twice (Bush and Cheney) and see Pelosi sworn in only to hand power over to Obama than to allow the smirking chimp to continue his delusional pretense that he’s done a passable job.

Now, about that 4th estate… they should have their spectrum access to public frequencies revoked and only re-issued once they prove they will do a decent job reporting the news!

Congressional Primary June 10th

Reminder if you live in Virginia, go vote tomorrow!

Here is my non-partisan, unbiased page (there is only one of those – normally I rant and/or rave a lot): https://blog.scottnolan.org/virginia-congressional-primary-june-10th/

The 8th, 10th, and 11th congressional districts all have bipartisan primary elections. In Virginia, you are not registered with any party, so any registered voter can vote in any one party’s primary for that day.

The Fall

Original, beautiful, riveting. You want to see this work of art on the big screen. Many thanks to shalmestere for tipping us off to the existence of the film. We made a night of it with Curry n Kabob (Indian) food, Ben and Jerry’s ice cream, and then two hours of sitting in air-conditioned theatre to escape the heat and humidity. It is still beastly outside at 10:30pm! The frogs are singing.

We saw an asphaltisaurus in Herndon on the way home, a live one, busy going “Nom, nom, nom, nom” on the street. It’s eyes glowed and it would have been terrifying except that it was clearly a tame and trained one, with trainers in the street before it and behind. We had no time to fetch a camera, but there is a picture a dormant one in daylight:

asphaltisaurus

Wow it is hot! Heat + humidity = lazy day

Both cats are sleeping, I am trying to cool down from a grueling hot bike ride up Bull Run Mountain and back down. If you are outside for long, be sure to drink plenty of water and wear sunblock.

The Fall

Thank you Shalmestere, for pointing out “The Fall” which looks like it will be fantastic. I need to drag Erci out for a change of pace anyway.

Ouch, roof repair not cheap

Katchmark came out and gave an estimate to fix the roof leak. At least it is going to get fixed in the next week or two, but it is not cheap.

Broken pool baskets replaced too, yippea! Pool Boys (the company) rocks.

Yay – Time Machine and Time Capsule work again

Many thanks to John Gruber and his friend Nat for posting a suggestion on how to fix the nasty bug that crashes OS X when using Time Machine to a Time Capsule to back up your Mac.

I used Airport Utility to enable File Sharing under the Disks menu. Then Disk Utility to “repair” the sparse disk image of the laptop that would crash every time I tried to back up with Time Machine. I am happy it worked like a champ, and Time Machine incremental backups are working again.

I still use Carbon Copy Cloner and a USB drive to back up my whole drive as a bootable image, and that is what I did while this bug impacted me. I suspect the partition on the Time Capsule became corrupt in a power outage we had earlier this Spring.

Dishwasher Fixed!

Nice gentleman from A&E repair came out and fixed the dishwasher this morning. It turns out that the Fisher&Paykel DishDrawers do not use a water level sensor, but they measure drag on the impeller to know if enough water is in the drawer to start the wash cycle. Our impeller was busted, spun too easily, and the drawer never thought it had any water. New (quite expensive) impeller fixed the problem in minutes. Yay!

More nervous about roof leak repair…

Storm!

Worldgate area in Herndon, VA just got hammered with driving rain and 40-50 knot winds. Visibility is severely restricted (as seen from the 7th floor windows at work) and it looks like traffic on the toll road (VA-267) is stopped for lack of visibility.

Get your flashlights and unplug your computers – power is fluctuating violently.

Update: Dulles Airport reported 70 mph winds, there was briefly a tornado warning in Loudon county, but that has been cancelled now and Herndon is calming back down. Still dark.

Please help me figure this out

I am trying to think of ways to heal the rift between Clinton supporters and Obama supporters, because the most important thing is to defeat John McCain in November.

I started this election (years ago) liking first General Wesley Clark, then Senator John Edwards once Clark endorsed Hillary Clinton. When John Edwards dropped out (just in time for my state’s primary) I voted for Senator Barack Obama. I began contributing to his campaign after his truly inspirational response to the first time he was publicly connected to Reverend Wright. At that point, for me, this switched from being the best choice available to being about someone I really thought was presidential.

Over the months since then I have been appalled by a few things Hillary Clinton herself has said, and quite a few things that senior members of her campaign staff have said. I do not attribute things her volunteers and supporters who are not actually on her staff have said to her; though I’ve debated some of them as individuals. As an Obama supporter I have even over-reacted and said some unkind things about Hillary Clinton when angry, and I am sorry for doing so. I am not part of Obama’s campaign though; and as an individual I feel free to speak my mind.

Something that profoundly disturbs me while watch the televised news (which may be a mistake, I admit), is the mainstream media’s focus on the more entrenched supporters of Hillary. I am disturbed by two questions:

1) Why is the media focusing on the more outrageous supporters from both Clinton and Obama supporters? They ingore McCain’s most outrageous supporters…. so it is clearly NOT as simple as the most prurient stories make better news.

2) Why do those most entrenched Hillary supporters accuse Obama or his campaign of denigrating or maligning Hillary personally? I have been unable to find a single instance where Obama or his Campaign attacked Hillary the person since Samantha Power was cut from his campaign. Yes, he has attacked specific statements Hillary has made, but he has also alway (to my knowledge) also expressed respect for her as a person. Amy I wrong? What am I missing?

Seriously, please help me find specific instances where Obama or his staff have been personal in their attacks on Clinton. I am trying to understand where this is coming from.

Am I looking through rose colored glasses? It is possible – I am very impressed with Obama’s statesman like demeanor. If anything, his calm can inspire anger as it can appear to be smug; but I see it as a quiet confidence…

Most of all I am enraged about the Republican administration, and a congress (both houses) that is not standing up to the administration and protecting the voters, the people of the United States and the world. I am enraged that our constitutional protections are being eroded. I am enraged that people are dying to protect the wealth of a few very greedy individuals and corporations. I am enraged that our government has tried to rule us through fear and manipulation of the facts. I am hopeful, and thrilled that we may finally have politicians with integrity who might begin to change all that.
