New eye-glasses, amazingly light

So I’ve been a slacker and put off going to the eye doctor for too many years. An unexpected benefit is that technology, specifically the technology of making eyeglasses, has improved dramatically enough to shock even me. The new glasses are extraordinarily light weight, 0.3 ounces. The frames are hingeless memory metal. The lenses some […]

Primary Voting Turnout High

When I voted for Obama at 9:30 this morning my tiny little precinct had 104 people vote as Democrats and 93 vote as Republicans (so far). What is interesting is that this is an overwhelmingly neo-conservative precinct, so there must be some cross-over voting happening.

New kitty adopted

Erci wanted a lap cat very much, and a cat that would bond with her the way Bailey has bonded with me. She found out that the local rescue team (Fancy Cat Rescue Team) was having an event at PetSmart and showing lots of kitties, so we went and checked it out. We brought home […]

I’ll use free cycle if none of you claim items on the list below… Three Practical Peripherals 288 V.34 Minitower II Data/Fax MODEM with power supplies. One Supra 14,400bis SupraFAX MODEM with power supply. One Practical Peripherals PM1200SA Mini MODEM with […]

Primary Elections

The greater Washington DC Area does not have presidential primary elections until next week (February 12th), but most of the country will get to vote in their primary elections tomorrow (February 5th). It’s time to make a statement regarding who I support in the coming elections. On the Republican side there are no good choices. […]

PC problem with memory

So it turns out I have led a rather spoiled life, racking up system time on big-endian systems from a variety of UNIX vendors… I am baffled by some of the little oddities of x86 architecture. I’ll buy beers for the geek that can help me get my Norhtec Microserver GP+ (SiS 55x series x86 […]

The joys of being a home owner

Erci and I have some pretty amazing good fortune/karma lately. We came home from work to find all the lights on (a feature of our lights is that events can trip an ALL-ON signal to all the X-10 controllers in the house and turn on all the lights). Typically this is from the alarm being […]

Deal too good to be true?

I am about to find out if there is such a thing as a free thumb drive. Buy.com and Google Checkout have a deal going where you can knock $10 off the price if you sign up for Google Checkout when you buy something from Buy.com. Last week a co-worker (you rock Ben!) found this […]

Full House

I love having a house full of people. We have the La Belle Winter Gathering going on right now, and that means 12 overnight guests (including Erci and me), 3 guest dogs, and 8-10 additional daytime visitors each day. We’ve been singing, learning about the medieval church, discussing the chest building project, and catching up. […]

Power Outage

We lost power at the house at 12:55 this morning. It came back on just as I was calling to notify NOVEC at about 4:15, but went off again at 4:20. It came back on again at 4:36 and the house is starting to warm back up now. Brrr….. Bring warm pajamas if you are […]
