I had a politics-free weekend with Erci to honor our 13th Wedding Anniversary. We had lunch at Maestro with the Smithsonian Association where chef Fabio Trabocchi prepared amazing meal of sausage terrine and pork chops on risotto. Yum! Then we drove out to see beautiful leaves and taste wine at Stillhouse Vineyards and Three Foxes Vineyards; two cases of wine later we headed back home to dress up for Kevin and Jen’s dance party in their lovely home in Ashburn. It was good to see a lot of dancers and friends and we were inspired to plan our own dance party sometime around Thanksgiving…
Yesterday we stayed in and cleaned our much neglected house a bit, and I got the last mowing of the season done. I also watched “The Constant Gardner” and confess it made me cry. What an awesome film about people with strong determinations.
Wine recommendations and ravings: Earlier this week Erci and I opened and enjoyed one of the best bottles of wine we’ve ever had, it was our last bottle of ’97 Ridge Geyserville, spectacular! Thanks Dad (Rob), for recommending this fabulous vineyard and wine! From yesterday’s tastings: I normally do not like chardonnay, but Stillhouse continues to make one we like (2003 Chardonnay) and they have very good Cabernet Franc (2005) and Meritage (2005). Three Foxes has astounding Il Volpe Sangiovese (2005) and Piemontese Nebbiolo (2005), and very, very good Il Cigno Merlot (2004) and Alouette Cabernet Franc (2005).
