Office Moves

Well, I got comfortable in my office again, so the company is moving me to a new building. This will be my 10th office move (11th office) at AOL. I’ve been pretty lucky and usually got nice places to work and great people to work with. Packing today was mildly depressing because I will miss all the fine folks in Reston whom I have loved working with regularly. The move offers several benefits, and a few drawbacks.

Benefits:

  • I love access to covered parking (no snow, no baking in the sun)
  • covered bike locking racks
  • beautiful view from 6th floor of woods and hills
  • I like cubes, they are conducive of friendly conversations and jumping up on desks and throwing stuff at co-workers over the low walls, besides we’ll run Office Space on continuous loop. 🙂
  • I like lots and lots of natural light, and it will be in abundance
  • The gym in CC5 (next building over) is nicer than the gym here in Reston
  • I’ll be able to carpool with pretty regularly, and that will be nice.
  • have I mentioned how much I like covered parking?
Drawbacks:

  • I need to work side-by-side with several NOC folks and several TestOps folks pretty regularly.
  • I love the cafeteria in Reston, CC4 may not be as nice.
  • Reston is only a couple of miles to the dance studio, so I can take a lesson at lunch or race there after work quite easily, it will be over 20 minutes each way from Sterling/Dulles, at least…
  • Scampi, my office ferret, will have to get accustomed to a new building! 😉
