For those of you using Google Calendars and Mac OS X Desktops with iCal, you can finally keep them in sync without any 3rd party software. Google supports CalDav format now. Instructions are on the Google Calendar CalDAV support page.

I have mostly been relying on my Palm Tungsten C and Palm Desktop (v4.2.1) for Mac software to handle my personal calendar, but Palm Desktop has been unsupported for a long time now and is really showing it’s age. People at work have been sending me meeting.ics files (from Outlook I think) that can be opened in iCal on my Mac OS X laptop/desktop, but I had to manually transfer (cut & paste) those to my Palm Desktop software in the past. I may finally switch to iCal now that I can see all the google calendar events and sync my Tungsten C to iCal via Mark/Space‘s Missing Sync for Palm OS ($39.95).

Hat tip to John Gruber for pointing out the new CalDav support in Google Calendar, and huge thanks to Google for making multiple calendars so easy to use and share. This now makes five google applications I use all the time: search, maps, calendar, blogger, and analytics. I’d dump blogger except for the local Soka Gakkai calendar and my old Dive Blog which has not been converted to WordPress yet; but Google’s other applications simply work. Very, very sweet.

This is an experimental post with MarsEdit 1.1.2. Not sure I like it just yet.
I have used MacJournal quite a bit and I like the way I can use it to post to both LiveJournal and WordPress (or Blogger), but it lacks a few features that are available at the admin interfaces on LiveJournal’s website and my WordPress website.

Anyone know of an application that has all of the above? Heck, Ideally it would write to blogger, wordpress, and LJ with ease (I am maintaining several blogs now, each with it’s own id, password, and premise).

So it turns out MarsEdit does not allow me to quickly send the same draft to two blogs. Sigh.

Amazing! WordPress imported my entire Blogger web log in around 25 seconds. I have not been able to get the same themes working in my WordPress blog yet, and I am concerned about backing up the MySQL database behind my new blog (one of the side benefits of publishing in a free service, but pushing back to my own domain is built-in redundancy). Once I figure those issues out, I’ll probably commit to switching from Blogger to WordPress. I’ll also have to figure out how easy or hard it is to publish to both LiveJournal and WordPress from MacJournal like I do now (with Blogger and LiveJournal).

Saady Khan has an informative post over at Spicing it up!!! – The Rain Machine that lists many ways you can update your own blog’s template and design. Thanks Saady!

I added an Atom stream/feed to my blog, and submitted it to the LeftyBlogs web log index hoping to see a little more traffic.

I have to figure out how to automatically, or at least more easily, put content into my sidebar – modifying the template at blogger every time is a PITA (pain in the arse). I really like the book and music lists I see at tsuredzuregusa and Liberal Rage, and I need to figure out how to get the Search field into my design such that viewers can search my blog easily. Blogger offers a great NavBar with search, but I don’t like what the NavBar does to my site’s appearance, so I want it inside the sidebar of my blog.

This is a first post to my new blog space, powered by the web application Blogger (www.blogger.com). I hope to share a few thoughts here, and perhaps someone will find it useful or entertaining, perhaps not. I decided to set up a blog a while ago, and Erci embarrased me into setting one up by doing her own blog, and then I got pushed into it even more by being asked by my local Soka Gakkai District to update the District Calendar using blogger.com’s web application.
