Rant about Oracle 11G

It’s not an alert nor error log file if it is encoded in XML format!!!!!

Oracle’s 11G listener drops xml rather than plain text log files, yet their engineers will ask you to go find the plain text logs which are now hidden in a new trace directory…. eye roll.

Oracle has always used the bdump and pdump directories to store “useful” log information. I suspect they’ve added the log files to make it easier for products such as Oracle Grid Control to collect data about system operations… :)
