Alaskans in general are far more independent minded than most folks in the lower 48, and that is a trait I admire greatly. They take care of themselves and each other.

I an sure than as more of her record is exposed it will be apparent just how much or little a reformer she really has been; and frankly, I am betting she’s another Republican shell game phony like Mitt Romney. An empty puppet that big-oil interests and pharmaceutical corporate interests can manipulate to their hearts content while she wins elections on abhorrent social issues and cherry picks which corruption to bask in and which corruption to fight so she can maintain the illusion of being a “reformer” and a “maverick,” much as McCain is an ideal sock puppet to the same interests.

The Republican party is not the Grand Old Party of my youth, it is a shallow shadow of that GOP of 40 years ago (or more), being exploited by a particularly nasty alliance of corporate interests who are exploiting the Christianists.

The jury is out on wether a party with the name Republican can ever regain the public trust.

Anyone want to bet against a 309+ electoral vote or a 56% or better popular vote victory for Obama?

People talk alot about Obama’s skill as a politcian but fact remains without Jones and his connections in the IL legislature Obama would still be an organizer. People are white washing the skill Palin must of demonstrated with navigating the potholes of Alaskan government as corrupt as it has been. She was an outsider and challenged the status quo.
I wish she did not have the positions she has on social issues like abortion or gay marriage frankly but as far as a “record” of achievement and a resume of documented achievement she passes fine. people can be critical of Alaska, or small time market, or she is woman or whatever but on paper her record far exceedes Obama. Thats not a knock on Obama though in any way. Obama merely took a different path but if you look at the resume and experience (not what college you attended) and atual votes on record or actual bills sponsored Obama’s record does not compare to ANY Governor from ANY State. Lets face it, being in the Senate does not really lend itself to the real requirements as an Executive which is why it is unfortunate for us we have three Senators on the national stage at this point.
Whther or not McCain has made a mistake or not will reveal itself in the coming weeks but it seems as though while rallying the base he may have alienated the independents. I do however think our Virginia independents lean Republican in that thats why you can see a 25 pt lead by Warner over Gilmore and only a 2 pt lead as oflast week by Obama over Mccain. Independents represented 26% of the latest PPP poll conducted monthly in Virginia. It appears many are going for Warner and McCcain but that was before the VP selection.

On the environment, well the evidence is also contradictory. I think it is important for us lower 48 folks to remember that Alaska is a very different place. It is still mostly wilderness. So I have no problem with her hunting moose, being in the NRA, or being rough and tumble by Des Moines, IA standards…. pretty much everyone in Alaska has to be in order to survive.

Alaska is the most pristine state in the union, but to suggest she had any part in keeping it pristine is deliberately misleading. Alaska is pristine because it’s population is low and because industrial tycoons of America have had fewer years to fuck it up… give them time; it can and likely will be ruined just like every other state. As governor, Palin, has done less to block the environmental exploitation that is inherent in our capitolist system. Thankfully, cooler heads in the state legislature had sometimes succeeded; and industrial interests in environmental exploitation have been slowed down in fits and starts over the years (including while she has been governor).

What is clear is that she is a trophy governor; not really understanding the impacts of her governorship, doing what was politically expedient, and quietly trying to push her Christianist agenda and personal interests into the people of Alaska while distracting them with rhetoric they wanted to hear and pretty pictures. Sounds a lot like George W. Bush and Dick Cheney, doesn’t it? Perhaps even more evil as she is prettier than either of them, and the fact that she is a woman and a hockey mom are even more distracting, if laudable.

She is one of the new generation of faux-Christians for whom the appearance of everything being all right is more important than the substance. It is a very narcissistic faith, and so many, many Americans have bought into it hook, line, and sinker… Palin is no better, nor no worse than a huge minority of Americans… One key difference: McCain thinks she should be one heartbeat away from the oval office. Unacceptable, insulting, arrogant in the extreme (all on his part).

so let me get this straight… you don’t think being the former mayor of Moose Nose AK qualifies here to be president?
