Firefly and Serenity Fans
How freaking cool is it to discover that your father-in-law and his wife are already huge Firefly/Serenity fans?
If you have not seen any Firefly, I guarantee you’ll love it after you’ve watched 2-4 episodes. The DVD boxed set of the series is running about $14 at Target and other big box discounters. Grab yourself a copy. It is the best television show ever made.
Watch Firefly first, and in the order of the DVD discs.
Then, if you can, watch Session 416 (aka: R. Tam Sessions) at http://www.session416.com/
There is a short comic series that takes place between the series and the movie called Serenity: Those Left Behind that is interesting to read and available through Dark Horse comics.
Then watch the feature film Serenity last. It is also available on DVD in several formats.
Trust me - you’ll love this material for the themes, the dialogue, the stories. Joss Whedon at his very best. Erci and I watch the shows over and over again.

Oh, fantastic. I have no idea how I missed it, but I’d never seen the R. Tam Sessions. Thanks for pointing them out.

It occurs to me that some people reading this thread may not be aware of two sources of sanity since Fox’s foolish decision to cancel Firefly the series…
If you can listen to MP3 files via computer or MP3 player - check out two of the best Podcasts ever:
“The Signal”
“Firefly Talk”
(simply use those search strings in iTunes, Yahoo, Podcast Alley, or whatever you use to collect Podcasts)
These two regular shows are all about Firefly/Serenity and “the Verse” and come out bi-weekly or more often.
I have found it very entertaining to go back and download every past episode (over three years for The Signal) and listen to them in order, despite the “news of the verse” being out of date.
Another fantastic podcast (sadly - appears to be defunct now) is:
“The Week in Whedon”
This one is a comedic show between a husband and wife team that covers Buffy, Angel, Firefly, and Joss Whedon’s comics - and they are awesome.
There is also at least one fan-fiction audio drama (think radio play) set in the ‘Verse called:
“Firefly: Old Wounds” that is really well done.
There are new audio dramas and even a video drama coming out soon - all fan-fic.
