Sometimes Life Throws You a Curve Ball

Erci is resting up now, she has a seriously pulled groin. She and her dance instructor heard a loud pop last night, and then she was in so much pain should could hardly move and she could not put weight on her right leg anymore. She called me to come get her, and on my way there my car stopped running. It would not restart, so I had to call for towing and Erci ended up getting a ride to Fair Oaks Hospital in an ambulance. Our good friend and heroine of the evening, Leslie, picked me up after the tow truck took my car away and took me to Fair Oaks where we checked in on Erci.

Erci was still in-processing and felt safe and secure, though she was still in pain. She was worried about her car, so Leslie took me to get the Prius and I went back to the hospital where Erci already had x-rays taken and an initial exam. They gave her vicodin and pronounced her injury a groin pull and dismissed her around 11:30 last night, very hungry.

She’s on crutches now, and still in pain; but recovering. We’ll be moving slowly for a bit now, but still having fun. Many thanks to Leslie, the very fine folks over at Fair Oaks Hospital, and to the friendly and helpful staff at Silver Diner in Fair Oaks who took care of our late night hunger, and to the wonderful staff at Arthur Murray Tyson’s Corners.

Sometimes Music and Poetry and a Few Photos are Worth Millions of Words

This just about sums up my feelings about the U.S. administration so eloquently and succinctly that it deserves spreading around. Sorry if the language is not suitable for certain environment… it is a flash slideshow with music, runs a few minutes. Worth every precious moment it takes to watch.

Marching Through Mud, oops, I mean Time

Saturday was wet and soggy, very soggy. We in La Belle Compagnie managed to have the camp mostly ready for public show only a little after opening hours despite the rain and many of us needing to catch-up and socialize a bit. I personally could not get motivated to pull out my armor and sword and archery gear pretty much all day Saturday because the rain and the very small trickle of public we did get on Saturday. I am sorry I did not motivate myself more, as we had two very promising new recruits (melaniesuzanne in costume and tashamcgann as technical crew), and it would have been time well spent if we’d all been performing at full public level for them as much as for the few public who did come through.

The event coordinator from the Marietta Mansion park told me Saturday night after closing that they were pleasantly surprised that despite the rain they had 125 visitors at the gate Saturday - which surprised me as I think we only saw about 45-50 in our camp. I am guessing many people decided to tour the mansion and the merchants and then called it a day because of the rain.

Sunday was much better, the sun came out, it was warmer, and we drew a larger crowd, though still not the ~500 a day the event has seen in the past. I did not hear the official Sunday gate count, but I am guessing only about 300, and many of them did not come down to the lower field (where we and most of the other early period camps were).

Bob and I managed to get the tents back up in my yard this morning so they could be hosed off and aired dry for more permanent packing away. All the wood is airing out in my garage until it can be oiled (probably starting Tuesday evening with Bob and PenguininArmor). Leather, and cloth are all hung up to air dry in the house, and swords and armor are in the front room collecting sun. All the metal will get scrubbed and oiled tomorrow before the rust monsters get to it. English pot (cast iron) is already washed and cooked dry. Need to make myself new hose, hood, and shirts - beginning to blow through my old ones. The rain did let me catch up on repairing shoes and making a few more bags.
